Green Built Home Makeover Unveiling, Open House Set for November 6

MADISON, WIS.- The Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) and Project Home are pleased to announce the completion of the third annual Green Built Home Makeover. Under the direction of volunteer Project Managers Abe Degnan (Degnan Design Builders, Inc.) and AnneMarie Dresen (AnneMarie Design, LLC), MABA members worked together to give one lucky family a free green home remodel.

The Green Built Home Makeover used green remodeling techniques to transform the home of the 800-square -foot Moss family home on Madison's south side

Before the project started the home had no heat in any of the bedrooms, making it quite uncomfortable for the family of six, which includes four children under age 12. Now, the home has a high-efficiency furnace and new venting to all of the rooms. "The biggest challenge was figuring out how to heat and cool the entire house," said Project Manager Abe Degnan of Degnan Design Builders, Inc. in DeForest.

Previous moisture problems have also been fixed. An inefficient water heater and refrigerator have been replace with ENERGY STAR(r) models. A water softener was installed to prevent further pipe corrosion and improve water quality. Other improvements include: energy-efficient lighting fixtures and ceiling fans; storage solutions; BioBased spray-foam insulation; air sealing; foundation coating; new siding; gutters; and replacement of a window with acrylic block in the bathtub area.

Degnan says remodeling is "inherently green, because we're using resources that are already there."

The Green Built Home Makeover Unveiling will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Moss home, 1714 Baird St., just off of Park St.

in Madison. Representatives from MABA, Project Home, Inc. and the family will be available for interviews at the event. An open house for the public will be held from 3-6 p.m. that day and will feature tours of the home. Green remodeling experts will be on hand to discuss the project and answer questions.
